The Girls Cross Country team competed last Friday evening at the Cy-Fair Invitational at Spring Creek Park in Tomball. The varsity group ran against 16 other 4A & 5A schools for an impressive 6th place overall finish in the varsity division. Many of the Maverick runners either posted personal bests or ran impressive matching mile splits over the challenging 2 mile course.
The first two runners for the Mavericks ran side by side over the entire course. Sophomore Meredith Gamble (13:08) out sprinted Senior teammate Catie Reynolds (13:10) for a 18th and 21st place overall finish respectively. Finishing 3rd for the Mavericks was freshman Jessica Van Sweringen finishing in a time of 14:05 followed closely by senior Emily Watkins in a time of 14:14. New to the scoring order and running 5th for the Mavericks was sophomore Sara Patterson in a time of 14:39 and coming in 6 seconds later was junior Brittany Beavers also running for the varsity squad for the first time this season.
Rounding out the top 7 was junior Nelly Kontchou finishing the course in 15:04.
Danielle Pike, Adrienne DePaul, Mackenzie Hicks and Annie Gallay competed in the junior varsity division. Annie Gallay once again improved her overall personal best time by several seconds.
The Mavericks are looking forward to their next competition. They will be hosting The Ramble at Buffalo Bayou on Oct. 20th. Come support the team as they set their sites on SPC!
