St. John's faced a major test playing the perennially strong home-schooled team, HCYA.  The Mavs had a decent first quarter, ending up behind on the scoreboard 13-18.  Certainly, giving up 18 points is not great defense, but realistically, the Warriors are a strong offensive team.  After the opening 8 minutes, there really are not many positive things to write about.  Turnovers were a huge problem, transition defense was poor, and it just was not a good night for the home team.

So, gut check time.  On Friday, ESD will make the trip south.  Will the Mavs get in two solid days of workouts and be ready for the challenge?  Come to Liu Court at 5pm and watch Maverick Basketball continue their journey after this major bump in the road to attain a Division I SPC ranking.
