YESPC- Girls' Golf and Boys' Track & Field 2019 SPC Champions

St. John's Girls' Golf won their third consecutive SPC championship on Tuesday. St. John's Boys' Track & Field gave St. John's their second spring championship on SPC Saturday. Softball snuck into the championship game as the South 4th seed losing to EHS  6-1 for runner-up.  The rest of the field of teams competed in third-place games led by Baseball with a 4-2 win over John Cooper. Girls' Lacrosse, Boys' Tennis, and Girls' Tennis all finished fourth. Girls' Track & Field also placed 4th. Boys' Golf finished tied for 5th. Last week Boys' Lacrosse finished 3rd.  Win, place, and show, hats off to all of our St. John's Mavericks!



St. John's Mavericks went to work on SPC Friday battling tough competition, inclement weather, and gravity. All teams won their quarterfinal rounds to advance to the Championship semifinals. Softball and Baseball upset SPC North #1 seeds to advance, while Girls' and Boys' Tennis held to move to the right side of the bracket.  Girls' Tennis swept Casady and Boys' Tennis needed to win their last three matches to take out St. Andrew's 3-2.  Russell Li won #3 singles to clinch a spot in the semi-finals vs #1 North seed ESD.  The Boys were swept by the Eagles while the girls' lost in a 3rd set tiebreaker in the last match against Hockaday. Softball made it to the Championship Finals upsetting Kinkaid 1-0.  In Track and Field, the Mavericks had an up and down day at SPC, highlighted by Will Leger's big performances in field events, and punctuated by the boys' awesome effort to no avail in the 4x800 relay when a dropped baton disqualified the relay team.  Complete Day 1 Results are HERE.  Genson Hooper failed to make the Long Jump final and came back to break the school record winning the Triple Jump.  August Windham was 2nd in the Pole Vault, Emmanuel Sgouros picked up a point in the 3200m, Collin Fullen was 6th in the Long Jump, and Will Leger was tied for 2nd in the High Jump, after placing 6th with a PR in the Discus, and 3rd in the Shot Put with multiple PRs!  Ellie Eikenburg cleared her PR and tied for 5th place in the Pole Vault, Elizabeth McNeely was 8th in the Triple Jump, and the Girls 4x800 placed 5th with a strong finish by Cici Calhoun.  For final track and field results click HERE.

On SPC Saturday St. John's Track & Field was ready to run for the roses starting with the first race of the day. Girls led off with a school record and first place finish in the 4 X 100 relay.  The Boys' followed up with a first-place finish of their own.  As the day unfolded St. John's Boys' edged out St. Marks' 139 to 127.5 for their second consecutive championship.

Friday, May 3: Girls' Tennis 3-0 win vs. Casaday, 3-2 loss to Hockaday; Softball 8-6 win vs Greenhill, 1-0 win vs Kinkaid; Boys' Tennis 3-2 win vs.St. Andrew's, 3-0 loss vs. ESD; Baseball 7-2 win vs FWCD, 4-3 loss to EHS; Girls' Lacrosse 16-7 win vs. Greenhill, 17-9 loss vs ESD; Track & Field Day 1 (EHS)
Saturday, May 4: Boys' Track & Field SPC Champions. Girls' Track & Field 4th place; Girls' Lacrosse 8-5 loss vs Hockaday for fourth place; Baseball 4-2 win vs. JCS for third place; Softball  6-1 loss vs EHS for second place; Boys' Tennis 4-1 loss vs St. Mark's for fourth place; Girls' Tennis 3-2 loss vs John Cooper for fourth place.
