Heading int Spring Break, Boys JV Netters Eke Out a Win

H Graham
Heading into Spring Break, the JV Boys scratched out a win 4 - 3 against Houston Christian in the first ever meeting between the two schools at this level.
Houston Christian raced to an early 3 - 0 lead through three lines of doubles play, leaving a mighty hill for the singles players to climb. Those battling for the Mavericks in doubles were the teams of Lyndon Huang ('24)/Michael Mann ('24), Harris Lee ('23)/James Li ('23), and Matthew Lee ('23)/Arjun Maitra ('24).
And climb they did.
Line 2 Singles was first off the court with a 6-2 win by Joseph Marshall ('24), followed by Henry Magdol ('24) tidying things up at Line 1 with a 6-3 scoreline.
Benjamin Lu ('24) engaged in a seesaw battle at Line 3 before closing his match out at 7-5 to tie the two schools at three lines a piece.
It all came down to Matthew Lee ('23) at Line 4, who had a workmanlike set (6-1), providing the lads the deciding fourth point.
It was a tough day on the courts but our Mavericks prevailed.
One week off and then back to the courts, with three matches on the docket for the week of our return against, Emery Weiner, Awty International, and Strake Jesuit.
Until then, rest up and go Mavericks!
