State Champs: Wrestling Grapples Another Title

Maverick Wrestling won their third consecutive Texas Prep State Championship this weekend in Argyle, Texas.  This is the sixth consecutive season the Mavericks have won a championship in either the SPC, State Duals, or State Prep meets. In the previous two seasons they won all three. This win was worth the wait.  SPC winter wrestling was cancelled and the program that usually competes in the winter season, had their first practice just before spring break.  With just two dual meets to prepare for the state event, St. John’s relied on their veterans to set a championship tone.  The Mavericks won with 207.5 points, ahead of host school Liberty Christian (95.0) and third place EHS (92.5).  St. John’s qualified for all-state honors in every weight class with four first-place finishes, five runners-up and four third-place results.
