Mavericks Compete at USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships
St. John’s Mavericks Margot Manning ’23, Katherine Nelson ’23, Reese Animashaun ‘24, Sonia Rio '24, Daniela Laing '25, Warner Stahlbaum '25, and Kiran Rio '26 competed at the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships (GJNC) held in Las Vegas, NV on June 27-July 5, 2021. Their teams earned spots in GJNC by medaling in qualifying tournaments this spring in either the Open, National, USA, or American divisions, respectively.
Nelson’s HJV 16 Elite team finished 13th at the 16U Open level, Animashaun’s Skyline 15 Royal team finished 2nd in the 15U National level, Manning’s Skyline 16 Royal team finished 5th at the 16U National level, S. Rio's HJV 15 Premier team finished 13th in 15U USA level, K. Rio's HJV 13 Elite team finished 9th in 13U American level, and Laing's and Stahlbaum's HJV 14 Premier team finished 11th in 14U American level. Both Animashaun and Manning were selected to the All-Tournament team in their divisions.
