Mavericks Take the Knights – Girls Volleyball in First Place

Girls’ Volleyball (4-0) defeated EHS for the first time in six years to stay unbeaten and take sole possession of first place in the SPC South.
The Mavericks lost the first set 25-18 and bounced back to win the second set 25-23. EHS looked primed to finish off the Mavericks by jumping out to an early lead in set three and coasting to a 25-21 margin.

"After the third set, I told the team that the match was not over and we had to put it behind us," said Head Coach Shelbi Irvin. " We did not play particularly well in that set and I reminded them that when we play to the best of our ability we can compete with anybody.  We stepped up and you could tell that we wanted it."

The Mavericks kept the ball in play time and again to take the fourth set 25-18 forcing the fifth and final set. In the last frame St. John's went up 8-3, 10-5, 10-6, 11-7 before closing it out 15-11.

"Coach told us that every point matters," said Alexandra Lewis '19. "It clicked in our heads that no ball was going to hit the floor and just help your teammates and hype everyone up and the momentum changed."

"I'm just so proud of us and I knew we could do it," said Celia Adams '20.

"We're confident," said Siena Zerr '19
