The 2025 Fall SPC Championships began in the greater Houston area on Thursday and concluded on Saturday, a day that had four St. John’s teams in the hunt for a championship. Girls and Boys Cross Country started things off with a runner-up and a championship finish, respectively, at Spring Creek Park in Tomball. The Girls were led by first-place All-SPC runner Taylor Synnott '28. Andrew Wasserman ’26 led the boys with a 3rd-place run and All-SPC honors. Asher Gurr ’29, Henry Caputo ’26, and Horatio Wilcox ’26 also earned All-SPC. Complete results are here. Field Hockey lost to Kinkaid 3-1 in the SPC finals. Josephine VanHoutan ’26’s goal put the Mavericks up 1-0 early on, but Kinkaid scored three unanswered goals for the win. Finally, after trailing 0-1, Girls Volleyball reeled off three games in a row to defeat Episcopal and win their first SPC championship since 2018. Congratulations, Mavericks!
Angie Kensinger will be posthumously inducted into the inaugural class of the Texas Lacrosse Hall of Fame on November 1, 2025, at the Briar Club of Houston. This award is a capstone to a coaching career that was nothing short of legendary and more than deserving of this honor.
St. John’s JV Field Hockey team defeated EHS 7-0 to win the 2025 City Championship. The Mavericks' defense did not allow any goals all season long, while the offense generated 88 goals in 14 games. Congratulations on an undefeated season, Mavericks!
The 75th football rivalry game between St. John’s and Kinkaid will be played at St. John’s for the first time since 1978. What was once a true home-and-away contest is back after being hosted at Rice University for almost 50 years. Kickoff is set for Saturday, November 1, at 2:00 p.m. on Skip Lee Field. This will also be the last game played on the grass of Skip Lee Field. Future campus construction will include the demolition and resurfacing of both Skip Lee Field and the McMurrey Memorial Track. Before the game, the St. John’s family picnic will begin at 12:30 p.m. Come on out and root for your home team or catch it on Hudl.
Juliana Boon ’24 was named to the U.S. U21 roster for the FIH Hockey Women's Junior World Cup. Boon is a redshirt freshman at Northwestern and the starting goalkeeper for the 11-1 Wildcats, who are ranked 5th in NCAA D1. This season, Boon was selected as 2x Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week (9/8/25, 9/22/25) in addition to Big Ten Freshman of the Week (10/6/25) and NFHCA DI Defensive Player of the Week (9/10/25). The U-21 USWNT opens up JWC against New Zealand on December 1 at the National Stadium Sports Park in Santiago, Chile.
St. John’s (6th, 23rd) hosts Kinkaid (5th, 21st) in a Max Field Hockey top-ten regional and top-25 national match-up. Start time is 4:45 p.m. on Finnegan Field. Please click here for the livestream.
St. John’s Girls and Boys Cross Country won the varsity divisions at the 44th Ramble race held at Spring Creek Park in Tomball. The girls, led by overall winner Taylor Synnott ’28 (18:24.9), finished with a 13-point margin of victory. Mary Elizabeth Villa ’26, Sofia Kiyama ’26, Kiki Boukas ’28, and Logan Barrett ’29 rounded out the scoring for the Mavericks. The boys were paced by Andrew Wasserman ’26 (16:15.4), who finished 5th overall. Sam Caruso ’27, Asher Gurr ’29, Horatio Wilcox ’26, and Henry Caputo ’26 joined in the scoring for a 35-point margin of victory.
After the races, SJS honored their seniors: Avery DiNardo, Kori Hagins, Sofia Kiyama, Mary Elizabeth Villa, Bryanna Micu, Claire Connelly, Jennifer Lin, Andrew Wasserman, Henry Caputo, Horatio Wilcox, Quentin Nicholson, Akash McCracken, Julian Juang, Carter Lawrence, Lachlan McFarland, and Jonathan Dokupil.
The Mavs travel to Austin on October 25 for the St. Andrew’s Invitational, followed by the SPC Championships held back at Spring Creek Park on November 8.
