The Mavericks competed at the EHS JV meet on Wednesday and at the Kinkaid Relays and the St. Agnes Invitational on Thursday. All results are HERE. The girls were 3rd and the boys were 4th at the St. Agnes Inv, Emmanuel Sgouros broke his own week-old record in the 1600 meters, running 4:15.76 to move into the top 5 in the state of Texas and ranks 10th in the nation! Emmanuel, Josh Schwartz, and Wilson Bailey will run in the Texas Distance Festival in Dallas this coming weekend. The team returns after break to compete in the St. Thomas boys - SJS - IWA girls JV Dual Meet March 25th at St. Thomas High School, and the Awty Invitational Saturday March 27th! GO MAVERICKS!
An exciting day brought a new school record by Emmanuel Sgouros in the 1600 meters of 4:19.88 (old record of Drew Woodfolk of 4:22 in 2018) and some exciting and gutsy performances by girls and boys. Great start for the 54th Mavericks Relays. Boys lead the meet with a win in the 4x800 relay, Ryan Kao 2nd in Pole Vault, Miles Masterson 2nd in Triple Jump and 3rd in Long Jump, Wilson Bailey 3rd in the 3200m, and the Boys finishing 3rd in the Swedish Relay. The girls finished 2nd in the 4x800 Relay, 4th in the Swedish Relay, Lexi Guo was 4th in the Pole Vault, and Elisabeth Marek was 4th in the High Jump. Friday March 5th Field Events, 3200m at 4:30pm; Swedish Relay and 4x800 around 6:30-7:15. Saturday March 6th 9:00am Boys Discus and Girls Shot and ALL TRACK EVENTS! Unfortunately, the Azaleas will not be blooming due to the freeze, but it will be beautiful weather and a great meet! Parents, we will get information for spectating, but seating will be in the west bleachers.

We are off to a great start with the most girls and boys ever on the team, great practices, and lots of good performances to come. If you are not in a winter sport at SJS, get going with training in preparation for the spring! Look under announcements and links for videos of training exercises. We still are not allowed on the athletic side of the street at SJS, but hopefully we will in January. If not, continue to use parks, other local tracks like Heights HS and Memorial MS, Memorial Park asphalt loop, neighborhood streets and trails, etc. Go Mavericks!
