St. John’s Mavericks landed three trophies this fall season at SPC held in greater Houston. Girls and Boys Cross Countryteams finished runners-up while Field Hockey was crowned SPC Champions. Girls’ Cross Country started off the celebrations edging out Hockaday by four points for second place. Boys Cross Country, also in second, finished a point ahead of EHS, and four points behind first-place St. Andrew’s. Boys' Volleyball lost their fifth-place match, and Girls' Volleyball won their final match for third place. After earning the #1seed by defeating Kinkaid 2-1 in the last regular season game, Maverick Field Hockey (#5 nationally ranked) kept their momentum rolling with a 2-1 championship win over the Falcons! Way to Go, Mavericks!
For the Girls' cross-country team, Alexa Christensen, Cora West, Natalie Boquist, and Mimi Villa all finished All-Conference. Wilson Bailey, William Thames, Andrew Wasserman, Konnor Allen, and Jay Woodhouse all finished All-Conference for the Boys. See the final cross-country results here:
In the SPC 4A Championship field hockey game, St. John’s started strong with two goals in the first quarter by Anna Kate Black and Kristina Johnson. St. John’s defense was superb and held the Falcons at bay for the majority of the contest ultimately winning 2-1. The Mavericks ended the regular season ranked #5 in the country by Max Field Hockey.
