SJS Drops Home Opener to Second Baptist

An experienced Second Baptist team defeated St. John's by a score of 12-1 at Taub Field today. The Mavericks had some chances to score early in the game but left five runners on base through the first 4 innings. Despite not capitalizing on our scoring opportunities, it was a 4-1 game after four innings of play. Second Baptist busted out with 8 runs in the top of the fifth and the Mavericks did not answer with any runs ending the game. Brandon Davies started on the mound and went 3 innings. Angus Mitchell pitched 1 and 2/3 innings and Ryan Staine pitched 1/3 inning.

St. John's scored one run on three hits. Tim Bernica was 1-1 with a single, a walk, one stolen base, and one run scored. Tyler Citek was 0-1 with a sacrifice bunt. Ryan Staine was 1-3 with an RBI single. Eric Elliot was 1-2 with a single. Dorian Hicks was 0-0 with 2 walks.
