Mavericks win silver division

St. John’s girls soccer team finished 1st in Silver Division at the St. Mary’s Hall Tournament. This past weekend, the team finished the tournament with 2 decisive wins against Oakridge of Arlington and Incarnate Word of San Antonio.  The Mavs opened the tourney with a 0-0 tie vs. John Cooper with SJS out shooting them 28-3. The Mavericks found shots from 10 different players.  The Mavs continued play next against state powerhouse Nolan High School of Dallas.  The Mavs fell 3-0 against the talented team.  In the last match of pool play the Mavs tied San Antonio Christian School 0-0, once again out shooting the opponent 10-0.

 

In championship play on Saturday the Mavs came from a 1-0 deficit to beat Oakridge 3-1 in an impressive offensive performance.  In the Silver Division Final the Lady Mavs defeated Incarnate Word 4-0. Eight Maverick players created 23 scoring opportunities to Incarnate Word’s six.  The Mavs scoring drive opened with a cross from freshman Katherine Franklin finished by Junior Sarah King.  Boo Mayer capitalized on a scoring opportunity minutes before the first half ended.  Nora Niebruegge led second half scoring with two goals to end the game in a shutout.

 

 

All pool play matches consisted of 25 minute halves and championship play on Saturday of 30 minute halves.  The Mavericks look to continue match play following the Thanksgiving holiday.
