St.John's Runs Away With a Win!

Mavericks win at The Woodlands!

The girls cross country team competed under the lights at the Friday Night Lights Invitational in The Woodlands on Friday, August 31st.  After about a 45 minute rain/lightning delay the meet was underway and back on schedule. 

Eleven runners competed in two divisions on Friday night.  Four runners competed at the Junior varsity level. With over 150 participants the four girls placed in the top half of the competition.  Brittany Beavers ran in a time of 15:23, Sara Patterson ran in a time of 15:40, senior Adrienne DePaul ran her first ever cross country race in 15:45 and Annie Gallay ran her first ever meet in 17:35.

Following in the Junior Varsity competition was the Varsity B Division.  The seven runners from St.Johns ran well enough to bring home the gold for the squad.  The top 5 runners were Catie Reynolds 13:25 (13th place), Meredith Gamble 13:29 (17th place), Emily Watkins 13:38 (24th place), Jessica Van Sweringen 13:39 (25th place), and Mackenzie Hicks 15:02 (94th place).  Nellie Kontchou 15:06 and Danielle Pike 15:27 finished 98th and 115th respectively, to finish out the top 7 for the Mavericks. 

With the impressive start to their season the team looks to their next meet at the Montgomery/Puma Invitational on Saturday Sept. 8.
