The Mavericks had a special look about them as the team gathered in the locker room before boarding the bus to Episcopal. These fixated faces show up annually when St. John's takes on teams in "rival week." Emails from alumni had already hit the computers. From South Bend, IN to Williamstown, MA recent grads #2 (Herlihy) and #37 (Hines) sent their regards and the Maverick message to take care of business starting on 4/2/08. Kozzy and Rolo even showed up in person to get a glimpse of what meant so much to them in their tenure. In the first few minutes of the game, however, the Mavericks had nothing to show their fans, which was the only thing at the midway point of the first quarter that was outnumbering their opponents. Poor defense, no shots on cage, and a 0-2 deficit to the Knights was nothing to text about. It took a time out to get back on track and keep the focus on the game plan that we could do this. Patrick Wilkey then scored three out of the next four goals with Reed Daniel also finding the back of the net and the Mavericks tied it up at 4 with 4:14 to go in the half. Edward Williams gave us the lead and the guys in red went up 7-4 at the break. Williams scored his third in the third and William Young also found the back of the net to give the Mavs a 9-4 lead and the game winner. Peter Guffey scored the next two and EW 5 got his fourth goal in the last minute of play. The Mavericks travel to St. Andrew's School of Austin to continue their SPC stretch. Game time is 600 pm Friday vs the Crusaders.
