MAVERICKS FAIL TO ADVANCE TO THE SPC CHAMPIONSHIP, FALCONS FINISH IN OT

St. John's seemed to have the game under control for the majority of the night on Scotty Caven Field, but Kinkaid would eventually walk away the spoiler.  This was an eerie feeling for the home team having dropped late leads to Woodands and Strake on the Maverick soil.
The Mavericks took a convincing 2-0, then 4-2 , and 5-4 lead into half time with Luke Phillips scoring at the 4:43 mark of the second period.  Up 6-4 on Patrick Wilkeys goal the Mavericks looked to finish their sweep of SPC foes on Caven Field. Zach Stoler scored to make it 6-5, but Peter Guffey answered to put SJ up 7-5 with 6:35 to go in the game.
Stoler scored again to make it a one goal lead, but the Mavericks had the ball with 2:52 to go.  Boone Badger made a huge save off a shot by Guffey and the Maverick ride forced a "Gilman" clear only to bounce into Jared Wadlers' stick and finally tie the game at the two minute mark.
In the first overtime period St. John's defense held their own and William Young almost put the game away but his shot sailed over the net, setting up the second ot period.
Luke Phillips set up for the final face off on the night (15th overall for #24) and fought for possession only to have the ball bounce again to the Falcons setting up their last possession and eventual game winning score by Jared Wadler.

St. John's sat hang dog on the sidelines in disbelief wondering where their lead went and where there season is going.
As time ran out for the Mavericks on the final goal of the night, their team goal of winning the City Championship still is alive.
St. John's hosts Lamar on Tuesday night and then travels to Highland Park on Saturday, April 19th to round out the regular season.
