WALLER HOWLS WITH PAYNE AS SPARKS FLIES OVER FALCONS

schambers
Senior night, full moon, lightning looming, win and you're in, all in a cross town rivalry that is stirring up again with "The Belt" on the line.  Staying in the moment between the lines, The Mavericks took Segal Field by storm.  Reed Daniel put in the first goal three minutes into the game.  Kyle Sparks made it 2-0 St. John's before Kinkaid answered on Jay Lee's goal from Jarred Wadler.
Sparks was stealing the show with one of his 10 face offs moments later and hit William Jewett to make it 3-1 at the end of the first.

The second period started with a Graham Bayley unassisted goal for the Falcons, and minutes later, Daniel found William Payne for one of his three goals on the night.  Zack Stoler's unassisted goal with 8:05 remaining in the second put the Falcons within one, but it would be well over two quarters until the Falcons scored again.

During that stretch the Mavericks were having their own Senior night.  Henry Waller, growing hair out of his helmet, grew into a 6 x 6 werewolf stopping 17 shots on the night.  Sparks was winning face offs and the Mavericks took their intensity to the offense and gb's (Jeff Wu, Ryan Cordill 6).  An almost goal as time expired in the first half by Daniel and Caldwell Flores' flurry of shots kept the pressure on until Payne struck again at the 9:27 mark in the third.  Patrick Wilkey scored  the game winner on an extra man play and Payne picked up his hat trick and a Mavericks' 7-3 lead late in the fourth.  As time was running down, the Falcons scored two more from Marshall Crawford and Stoler, but it would not be enough to force another overtime.
With "The Belt," held high the Mavericks also picked up a number one seed from SPC South, and home field advantage throughout the THSLL playoffs.  St. John's travels to Lamar at South Campus on Tuesday.
