St. John's Mavericks are looking for answers after finishing fourth in the inaugural SPC Boys' Lacrosse Championships hosted by the St. Andrew’s School of Austin.
Seeded number one from the South Zone, St. John's put together a brilliant four quarters. 48 consecutive minutes of gutsy, fearless lacrosse that gave them their undefeated 12-0 swagger before the weekend. In a tale of two games and two halfs, the Mavericks stellar play was divided between two games less than twenty four hours apart. The Mavericks won the ESD second half 5-2 on Friday and lit up EHS 8-3 in the first 2 quarters in Saturday’s 3rd place game.
Against the Knights, Peter Crain, Zach Gaitz, and Jordan Schuler stood out for the Mavericks with 10 overall points. Patrick Wilkey, Reed Daniel, Kyle Sparks, Caldwell Flores, and William Payne also put numbers on the board. Henry Waller netted 10 saves on the day and John Ytterberg picked up 10 gb’s to lead the Mavs, but is was not enough to hold off the boys in blue as they found a way to avenge the earlier double overtime Maverick victory.
St. John’s will host the lowest seed team on Saturday for the regional THSLL semi final.
