Mavericks are able to out stroke the Falcons in OT

Brenda Mercado
The Mavericks had a sluggish start to the game against the Falcons.  The Falcons won the coin toss and chose to start the game with the ball.  They were able to control the first pass and take the ball down the right side of the field and penetrate our defensive circle.  After many shots on goal the Mavericks were able to keep the Falcons from scoring and start their own drive up the field.  At the 9:00 minute mark of the first half the Mavericks were able to put together a string of successful passes to score in the right corner of the cage.  The first pass started outside the circle into Kris Slaughter where she passed to Amanda Leavell and she shot it into the corner.  At the 3:00 minute mark the Falcons finally wore down the Maverick's defense and score to tie the game 1-1 at halftime.

Both the defenses put up a good battle in the second half to keep the score tied at the sound of the horn to end regulation.  The Mavericks and Falcons would go to overtime.  Both teams put up a good fight, but both were unsuccessful in the 7v7  five minute overtime period to send the game to strokes.  The Falcons won the decision and chose to shoot first.  The first Kinkaid player's stroke hit the left post  for the Mavericks Maria Alcorn's stroke was stopped by Kinkaid's goalie.  The second Kinkaid player's stroke graised Carolyn Cooper's stick but scored in the left side of the goal for the Mavericks Michelle Tyler's stroke was stopped by the goalie.  The third Kinkaid player's stroke was stopped by Carolyn for the Mavericks Carlton Touchey sent a rocket to the left corner past the goalie.  The fourth Kinkaid player's stroke went wide of the goal for the Mavericks Natalie Plummer stroked perfectly into the corner past the Kinkaid goalie.  So Mavericks were victorious over the Falcons.

Next game is October 21st against Duchesne at St. Mary's Seminary starting at 4:00.
