In the last home game of the 2010 campaign, the Mavericks played the Second Baptist Eagles for the fourth time this season and came away with a victory. With all of the South Zone games completed, the Mavs use this game as well as the game this coming Monday at Duchesne as tune up games for SPC.
Trailing 0-1 in the bottom of the first inning, Savannah Erwin reached base in the lead off spot on a rare throwing error from the pitcher for Second. Savannah then successfully stole second base as well as third on a delayed steal. Savannah went home on the delay steal as the catcher from Second made a throwing error.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Mavs attempted to bust the game open but left the bases loaded in the inning on three successive bunts.
Escaping a bases loaded jam in the top of the 6th, the Mavs decided between 1/2 innings that it was time to end the ordeal against Second Baptist and finish it off.
The Mavs once again loaded the bases on back to back bunts as well as an error by the Eagles. Annie Bernica came to the plate and with an 0-2 count worked in a walk to drive in the go ahead run for the Mavs.
Offensive highlights for the Mavs: Savannah Erwin had a hit and two stolen bases, Pascale Rucker had a hit as did Emma Erwin.
Defensively the Mavs had Annie Bernica involved in seven of the twenty one outs, Paige Killelea scattered five hits, recoreded 3 K's and had 3 BB.
Congrats to the Mavs on this victory at home. They now get ready to face the Chargers from Duchesne in the final non-district tune up on Monday at Duchesne at 5:00pm before heading off on Wednesday for Ft. Worth.
