The Boys’ Middle School Cross Country Teams traveled to Kingwood last Saturday along with the Upper School Teams to run in the Andy Wells Invitational. The 2 mile distance might have made a few of the boys somewhat nervous before the start, but they soon learned their fears were unfounded. Although the SJS runners were the only middle school athletes in their division (the others being high schoolers), our boys won handily. (The meet officials mistankly included some SJS upper school boys in our results. Excluding them from our score, our middle school boys still win on their own.) Seventh grader Joe Faraguna won the race with a time of 12:05, beating second place and first Kingwood runner by 43 seconds. The next two SJS athletes were 8th graders Rod Ojeda in 3rd place with a time of 13:28 and Frank Spence in 4th place with a time of 13:41. Juan Philippe was 6th with a time of 14:26. Peter Strawn was the 5th runner for SJS finishing in 9th place with a time of 14:43.
Way to go Mavericks!
