Maverick Girls Win Dick Phillips Relays; Boys Finish Strong 4th Place!

The Episcopal Relays were renamed the Dick Phillips Relays at the start of the running finals tonight, in honor of longtime Episcopal (and formerly St. John's) track & field coach, who is retiring after this season.  The Mavericks took advantage of winning the first girls title for the Dick Phillips Relays with 151.5 points, and the boys had a great day to finish 4th in the team standings with 69 points.  Full results are HERE.  Click for more highlights and picture sites...
The Episcopal Relays were renamed the Dick Phillips Relays at the start of the running finals tonight, in honor of longtime Episcopal (and formerly St. John's) track & field coach, who is retiring after this season.  The Mavericks took advantage of winning the first girls title for the Dick Phillips Relays and the boys had a great day to finish 4th in the team standings.  Full results are HERE.  

Jackie Modesett won both 100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles and leaves the meet and stadium record holder in both.  All three girls hurdlers ran great races in 100H and 300H, with Stephanie Guo running a PR 15.42 and Grace VanLoh running a PR 49.65 in the 300 hurdles.  The Mavericks swept the 100 hurdles with Jackie, Stephanie, and Grace going 1-2-3.  In the field events, Briana Williams threw a season best 32'5" to place 4th in the Shot Put, and Renee Roberts jumped 15'1" for 8th in the Long Jump.

The boys had some big performances as well.  Justin Bernard won the Triple Jump with 40'4.75" on a forsaken and runway and pit which gives up few good performances.  William Mercado placed third in the High Jump with PRs of 6'0 and then 6'2".  Justin Bernard also ran a PR for 5th place in the 110 Hurdles and Andrew Jing placed 6th in the 110 Hurdles and 7th in the 300 Hurdles.  

Both 4x100 teams ran season bests, with Stephanie Guo, Abby Avery, Sam Night, and Jackie Modesett finishing 2nd in 49.48 and Risher Randall, Josh Otey, Nathan Avery, and Lee Hampton surviving a 3rd exchange wipeout to finish 4th in 44.16.  Sam Night placed 4th in the 100m and 5th in the 200m with a season best 26.87 out of lane 1!  Lee Hampton placed 8th in the boys 100 meter final.  Elise Viguet ran a PR 400m of 62.34 for 5th place, and Margaret Trautner, Francie Williams, and Olivia Havel placed 5th, 6th, and 8th in the 800 meters with season best times!

Joe Faraguna and Philip Taffet ran season best 800 meter times, as did Julian Henry and Ryan Reza in the 1600 meters.  The meet ended with the boys placing fourth with Risher Randall, Lee Hampton, Philip Taffet, and Rod Ojeda, and the girls team of Stephanie Guo, Elise Viguet, Abby Avery, and Sam Night ran a great 4:06.46 to win the race and the meet!
