The 2016 season for the Maverick JV Boys' Tennis finally kicked off on Wednesday, February 24, against Strake Jesuit at the Lee LeClear Tennis Center, after postponement of Monday's scheduled bout against Emery Weiner School.
The SJS/Strake match featured three lines of doubles and three lines of singles on a sunny, windy day.
The six lines featured gritty play with good spirit and fight as the lads shifted from practice mode against their own team to full tilt competition against seasoned opposition.

The takeaways were several, good grit, good fight, growing willingness to keep the point going, working the match, and picking your fellow Maverick up during those moments when he might be flagging.
And there are some things that we can and will address as we progress through the season, as we build and grow, practice to practice, week to week and match to match, such as match and opponent awareness, identifying the important points, and understanding, knowledge, and belief in what one can and cannot do on the court in tough situations.
Also, thank you to those of you who came out to watch the guys play and leave it all out on the courts.
