Maverick Boys JV Tennis Team Splits in Two & Plays Two Matches

Harold Graham
Under threatening skies and gusty winds, the Maverick JV Boys took on the Bulldogs of the British International School Houston and the Wildcats of the Westbury Christian School at Lee LeClear Tennis Center on Monday, March 7. A great big thank you to all the players with a special shout out to Jackie Ferrufino for all of the great pictures.

St. John's Mavericks vs. British International School Bulldogs
The Bulldogs lived up to their namesakes, fielding strong players who were a bit tougher in key situations against our battling Mavericks, gaining a 4-2 victory against SJS.
In Singles, Ryan Chang and Nicholas Echeverri battled through until the end, facing opposition that brought a bit more to the table this day in terms of strength and consistency.
In Doubles, our Mavericks fielded four lines. The pairings of Roosh Bhosale/Raunak Kundagrami and VivekKapur/Eli Maierson each pushed ahead early in their matches and maintained their leads through the finish. The pairings of Alex Ham/Andy Tockman and Ethan Boniuk/Eric Hang got out to slow starts and were not able to turn things around against strong opponents.
But the boys are smart and resilient, learning from their time on court in these matches.
Looking forward, with some work and more match play under their belts, the lads will be ready for our rematch on April 18.
Mark your calendars.

St, John's Mavericks vs. Westbury Christian School Wildcats
The Mavericks broke out of the starting gate in fine fashion against Westbury Christian and did not let up as our team gained a 6-0 sweep.
In Singles, Naveen Krishnan, William Wallace, Kenji Chevray, and Raunak Kundagrami, all won, showing patience and the willingness to stay in the point in less than ideal conditions.
In Doubles, the pairings of Louis Morrell/Will Rippeto and Kyle Jung/Ribhu Nag each fought back, overcoming breaks of serve against to clinch their matches.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 24 for the return engagement with the Wildcats.

Next up - the Bay Area Racquet Club Tournament this Friday, March 11 at the Harry Taylor Tennis Center in Strawberry Park, Pasadena, Texas.

Until then, as always, Go Mavericks!
