Mavericks open conference play with win over Spartans
The Mavericks traveled to Austin last Friday to open SPC South Zone play against Austin St. Stephen's. The team got on the board early, jumping out to a one to nothing lead after the first inning on an r.b.i. double by Regan Rau scoring Virginia Waldrop from second. The team added 4 more runs in the second, three in the third inning and 4 more in the 4th. Final score: Mavericks - 12 - Spartans - 0.
Offensively, Nora Niebruegge had the only other multiple base hit with a second inning triple. Virginia had two hits, and Boo Mayer, Cat Cain, Gabby Wise, Becca Linn, Dani Pike, Terrell Finnegan and Lizzy Padhi each had a hit.
Senior Melissa Baker picked up her nineth win of the year, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 4.
