MAVERICKS FIND THE ANSWER WITH PLAYOFF INTENSITY

schambers
St. John's started and finised each quarter with an intensity that has been missing for most of the season.  It is the THSLL playoffs and everything is at stake. With the loser going home and victor moving on, the Mavericks held on to what they value the most: the player-earned right to move on towards State.
The Seniors saw the last of Caven Field as the Mavericks are on the road Saturday night to The Woodlands, the regular season number one seed.  With Peter Guffey, Luke Phillips, Gordon Carver, George Dodd and even Tim Root showing fight or flight emotion, the team kept swinging until the final horn sounded.
William Young started the scoring along with Edward Williams to give the Mavericks a 4-0 lead in the first quarter.
Kingwood would not go away however, and answered back to get within 2 until Willam Jewett and Luke Phillips put the Mavs up 7-3 with seconds to go in the first half.  Peter Guffey almost made it 8 with a last second shot to end the period.
It was a relatively silent third quarter for the Mavs on the offensive side of the ball until the two minute mark.  Kingwood made it 7-5, and had the emotion of their crowd behind them, but Williams and Patrick Wilkey put the home team up by 5 combining on  2 of three goals up until the last second of the period.  Young gave the Mavs their 11th goal of the night in the fourth and the Mavs get to play again.
