GUFFEY LEADS CHARGE ON HIGHLANDERS
Senior Peter Guffey led the charge and several comebacks to try and take down The Woodlands in the THSLL City semi-final. Guffey has a career high 5 goals and 1 assist to give the Mavs a chance against the number one seed Highlanders.
Doen 5-2 in the second quarter, St. John's rallied and tied it up at 5-5 with momentum turning battle red.
St. John's however, could not hold off a slew of transition goals by The Woodlands at the end of the half and trailed 5-8 going into the third period.
Never giving up, SJ got five more scores and kept the Woodlands in doubt until the final minutes of the game.
Seniors Guffey, Tim Root, Luke Phillips, Gordon Carver, and George Dodd will be missed in 2009 as the Mavericks look to rebound back to their championship form.
