MAVERICKS NAIL DISTRICT WIN AGAINST KINGWOOD
With their whites on it was "fight's on" for the Mavs against a tough herd of Mustangs from Kingwood for the THSLL district opener on Scotty Caven Field.
The Mavericks took a commanding 5-0 lead in the second quarter with goals from Reed Daniel, William Young, Patrick Wilkey, and Zach Gaitz. Daniel and Gaitz assisted two scores.
Kingwood, however, rallied to score two late goals in the first half to make it 5-2 Mavs at the break.
Back on their feet, St. John's scored quickly in the 3rd period with Gaitz assisted by Jett Williams followed by William Payne assisted by William Young. Colin Schopfer scored Kingwood's final goal and Daniel finished with an unassisted score at the end of the game.
Will Wallace, Jett Williams and Patrick Wilkey led the team with 6 gb's each. Henry Waller had 8 saves on the night.
St. John's travels to San Antonio for a 7pm Friday night game followed by a 100 pm game in Austin vs Bowie.
