It was a great night for lacrosse on Caven Field! Orange and pink streaks highlighted the evening sky as the Maverick faithful settled into the stands to watch our first counter game of the season against a talented Woodlands squad. The visitors struck first, and the score remained close for much of the first half until the Mavs started to find their stride and pulled ahead to an 8-4 halftime lead. After an encouraging chat, the Mavs kicked it in and reeled off six unanswered goals to start the second stanza, seizing control of the contest for good. Most promising was how the team adapted and improved during the game. Most exhilarating were the four goals scored in the first three minutes of the second period! Most reassuring is how well our defense played - really strong and steady work from Incavo, Boles, Duncan and Duncombe-Smith, helped out by a myriad of midfielders, whose fresh legs made a big difference in the game. Most exciting is all the talent we have in our Maverick lax program. Great team effort, ladies!
Lacey, Frankles and Jess each tallied a hat trick, while Caroline and Robby found the net twice and AB, Grace, SUrdahl and Madeleine each earned a goal. Shout out to Mere for midfield speed and draw controls!
Nice job, ladies! We've got a nice stretch of practices (3) before we face Bellaire on Wednesday, at home 6:00 PM. Mavs on three! 1-2-3!!
