Flores Flies High for Mavericks

Sam Chambers
St. John's continued the tradition of spring break lacrosse with a new venue in the 3D Lax tournament in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Led by Caldwell Flores' four points on the night, St. John's went nip and tuck with Northfield Mt. Hermon.
Chris Gow got the Mavs up early with his first goal of the day.  Mt. Hermon answered and the game, played at Lakewood Sports Park, teeter tottered back and forth.
William Payne picked up a goal and was followed by Blake Upchurch's and Caldwell Flores' scores to put St. John's ahead again, but the boys from MA would answer.  Jordan Schuler got his only goal on the night and Upchurch picked up a second score, and like a see-saw, the Hoggers rallied one more time.
Down late in the game, Caldwell Flores put in the 7th goal for St. John's and his second for the night.
Outstanding goalie play by Nate Whittle preserved the tie, but most importantly,  the Mavericks picked up a swagger that has not been seen in Texas.
Next up: Westminster Grit and Grace for breakfast!
