ST. JOHN'S IMPROVES TO 2-0 IN SPC WITH WIN AT ST. ANDREWS

The Mavericks hopped on their Coach USA bus on Friday and made the beautiful drive to Austin.  The bluebonnets dappled the landscape, and the verdant fields must have been what Crayola had in mind when they created the "spring green" crayon.  A lovely day for lax to be sure.  It is always exciting to step off the bus at St. Andrews, as one can always expect a hard fought game between these two SPC teams.  Indeed, the match was closely contested through the first half, and the Mavs headed into the break up 8-6.  After regrouping, the visitors tallied five unanswered goals to start the second half.  With a more comfortable lead, the Mavs were urged to work on ball control, yet the offense did not heed that call, forcing a few shots and turning the ball over to a very capable and fiesty St. Andrew's squad.  What followed was a much more frenetically paced game than it had to be.  The Mavs will hopefully learn from this as they move forward:  Patience and Poise are very valuable weapons for a TEAM to have!

A nice, balanced attacking effort was led by Gibby with 3G/2A;  Frankles with 4G; Lacey with 3G/1A; Rillo with 3A; Joanie with 2A and AB, Grace & Cary with 1G.  Seven different scorers, 7 assisted goals!
