EAGLES CLIPPED BY MAVERICKS

Playing their third game in less than 24 hours, the Mavericks took on the Eagles from ESD Saturday afternoon on Caven Field.  Following a salute to our seniors and a stirring rendition of our National Anthem by Joan Scheirman, the Mavs were a bit on their heels in the opening 10 minutes of the contest.  Credit to ESD, who came out of the starting gate the stronger team.  Nevertheless, after a timeout, the Mavs quickly chipped away at the 2-5 deficit they were in, tying the game in just three minutes.  The Mavs would score two more unanswered goals before ESD could net their final goal of the half.  Well done, Mavs:  a 5-1 run after our timeout!  Halftime score:  SJS 7 ESD 6.

At halftime we talked about TEAM accountability: walking the walk after we talk the talk.  The Mavs took the field ready to run, not walk, and that they did.  Though ESD scored the equalizer just 30 seconds into the second half, it was all Mavs after that, as the home team cruised to a 9 goal victory.  Kudos to the TEAM for taking control of the contest.  Kudos to our defense for buckling down and holding ESD to just 4 goals over the final 40 minutes of the game.  Kudos to our balanced attack which saw eight different players score, with seven assisted goals.

The TEAM will work hard for three full days to prepare for their next opponent:  Cy Fair, at home this Thursday 4/1 7:00 PM on Caven Field.  Please come cheer us on!
