FALCONS FALL TO MAVERICKS

St. John's secured the #1 seed in SPC South with a convincing 18-9 win over Kinkaid Wednesday afternoon on Caven Field.  The team was challenged to set the tone early in the contest, and they did just that, jumping to a 6-0 lead in the first six minutes of play.  The team was then cautioned that there was plenty of talent on the Kinkaid squad, and as predicted, Kinkaid fought back, captilizing on a few mental lapses by the Mavs.  Nevertheless, the Mavs entered the half up 12-6.  In the second half, the TEAM pulled together even more, and defense held the Falcons to a stingy three goals for the final 25 minutes of play.  Great job!  Offensively, we saw much improved passing and a commanding performance by Captains Lacey and Joan, who combined for 8 goals and 3 assists.  Grace and Rillo each had a hat trick and caused a few turnovers with their relentless redefending.  Urdahl dominated the draw and had a gorgeous one-handed interception that will surely make the ESPN top-ten plays!  :)  Gibby personified the challenge to "own it."  Defensively Krissy, MA, Sarah D, Kelsey and Meredith led a solid effort.

The TEAM has worked hard since their loss last week, and this game was a good step in the right direction.  However, though proud of the win, the TEAM is not yet satisfied, as they know their best is yet to come, and it can only be reached with more hard work!  GO MAVS!
