Mavericks Earn Win in 4 in Second Baptist Match

The Mavericks Girls’ Volleyball Team delivered a win to a home crowd of fans Tuesday night in a close match.  The Second Baptist Eagles kept the match tight in the first three sets, with the Mavericks taking the first and second sets by 4 and 2 respectively, and the Eagles battling back to take the third set by 2 to avoid a sweep.  The final set was all Mavericks with a win by 11. All able Mavericks were on the court including injured captain Alia Nazir who handled the coin toss.  Kill leaders for the night were Jane Labanowski with 12, Meryl Gibbs with 10 and Stephanie Guo with 5. Senior setter Avery Landrum was close behind and earned 4 kills and 36 assists for the match.   Meryl Gibbs was the dig leader with 15 followed by Kate Bres with 12 and Stephanie Guo with 10. Avery Landrum had 6 service aces and Stephanie Guo had 5 aces for the match. The Mavs improved their serving record by averaging only 2 service errors per set.  The Mavs are now 6-2 in season play.
