Led by a combined 4 saves from Nate Whittle '12 and Scott Hereford '13, and an outstanding team defensive effort, St. John's put the rope around St. Mary's Hall for shut out victory on Skip Lee Field.
With defense taking a stand, the offense capitalized on multiple opportunities around the cage. Douglas Berkman '12 had a team high 5 goals and David Edwards '13 posted 3 assists to go with 4 scores for the Mavericks.
St. John's took a 7-0 lead after the first period and led by 11 at the half. Michael Cregan '13, Cade Shanks '14, Jonathan Newar '13, Will Griffin '13, Logan Smith '13, Jake Askew '13, Charles Alcorn '15, and Carl Bernicker '14 found net. Eric Hobby '13 led the team with 4 gb's.
If hockey assists were tallied, Charlie Russ '15, and Peter Cordill '15 were part of a 6 man chain that started from Whittle and ended with Berkman to wow the crowd.
The Mavericks will need a similar team and fan effort to take on the Mustangs on Wednesday night.
