St. John’s Announces Greg Cook ’06 as Head Coach for Boys Cross Country and Track & Field

St. John’s is proud to welcome back Greg Cook (Class of 2006) as our new Head Coach for Boys Cross Country and Head Coach for Track & Field.

A standout student-athlete during his time at St. John’s, Cook served as team captain for both Soccer and Track & Field. He continued his athletic career at Rhodes College, graduating in 2010 as a 12-time All-Conference honoree across the 400m, triple jump, javelin, and 4x400m relay.

Cook’s coaching journey began back at St. John’s in 2011, where he assisted with the long jump and triple jump. He later moved to Austin and spent five successful years as an assistant coach at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, contributing to both Cross Country and Track & Field programs. Most recently, Cook has served as Head Cross Country Coach at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School while also supporting Track & Field across sprints, jumps, throws, and distance events.

We are excited to welcome Coach Cook, his wife Jess, and their three sons—Theo, Benji, and Wesley—back to the St. John’s community.

Coach Mercado shared his enthusiasm:
“Greg was an outstanding student-athlete at St. John’s and truly excelled on the track. I’ve had the privilege of mentoring him over the years and helping guide the start of his coaching career. He has since developed into an exceptional coach and leader at both St. Andrew’s and St. Stephen’s. Greg understands our school, our program, and what it takes to develop student-athletes. I am personally thrilled to have him lead our program.”

Please join us in welcoming Coach Cook back home—we’re excited for the future of St. John’s Boys Cross Country and Track & Field under his leadership!
