Wheels Up: Field Hockey Faces Ranked Teams

Sam Chambers
Varsity Field Hockey’s 2025 schedule is as tough as it gets. Their next eight games are against Max Field Hockey regionally and nationally ranked teams. The stretch of games includes two out-of-state road trips and SPC games. This weekend, the Mavericks travel to Chicago to play New Trier HS (IL) (#12 nation, #3 WMW region), Pioneer HS (MI) (#5 WMW region), and Loyola Academy (IL) (OC WMW region). The Mavericks return to Houston to play Kinkaid (#10 nation, #2 WMW region) on September 11. The next week, they fly to Pennsylvania for three games at the Max Field Hockey National tournament. Episcopal (OC WMW region) hosts on September 25.

St. John’s did not have an out-of-state team travel to Houston this season, but were fortunate to have the New Trier coach reach out with an invitation to play some of the top teams in the Midwest.

“We are excited to play against great competition in Illinois, especially a lot of ranked teams,” said Head Coach Emily White. “We have a young team this year, and this is a good opportunity for us to find out what we can do.”

St. John’s has won 18 SPC titles, including the last three SPC championships, and is currently ranked #8 in the nation and #1 in the Midwest/Midwest Region by Max Field Hockey.
