7,000 Feet Retreat

Maverick Boys Cross Country traveled to Northern Arizona University, in Flagstaff, Arizona for their preseason retreat.

They ran on the Flagstaff Urban Trail System, on mountain roads, and on trails in the wilderness. After 8 days in Arizona, the group returned to Houston, elevation 43 feet. Forty-one boys, three coaches, and three parents traveled to Flagstaff, Arizona for our annual Boys Cross Country Retreat at Northern Arizona University, elevation 7000 feet. We ran daily on local trails and mountain roads, on the FUTS system (Flagstaff Urban Trail System - the most comprehensive urban and trail system in the country!), the Arizona Trails in the wilderness, and we had a good long run up A1 Mountain Road.  Coach Ben Rosario and some of his Northern Arizona Elite professional runners talked to us in the Walkup Skydome about training and mental aspects of distance racing, and afterward, the boys were able to do a trail run with some of the best distance runners in the nation!  After 8 days in Arizona, the group returned to Houston, elevation 43 feet!
