The Mavs came out strong last night against Westside, taking a quick 9-0 lead. Late in the half the team focused in on transition passing (especially those wonderful back passes!), non-dominant shooting, and ball control. After letting Westside back in the game, with the score getting as close as 11-7, the Mavs pulled back into a dominating lead, ultimately winning 19-7. Eleven different players contributed to the scoring, including Paige (3G), Amanda and Jordan (2G, 1A), Jessica, Kendall, and VA (2G), Linday, Morgan, and Hana (1G, 1A), and Hana and Sasha (1G). What a great night!
We are all excited to be pushed to higher levels in Florida this weekend, as the Mavs take on teams from Florida, North Carolina, Connecticut, and Georgia!
The Mavs faced their first deficit as the Highlanders from the Woodlands came out strong and went up 4-0 last night on Caven Field. Paige broke the streak with a goal, and the Highlanders quickly struck back, going up against the Mavs 5-1. But the Mavs were not to be defeated, and they dug deep, putting in six unanswered goals, and headed into halftime with the lead 7-5. The second half was controlled by the young Mavs, who dug deep and learned lots as the game continued. Never satisfied, the Mavs took contol of draws and transition passing, and finished the game in the lead 15-8. What a night! It is SUCH fun to win a tough competition, and the smiles have never been bigger on the Mavs young faces.
Several girls contributed to scoring, including hat-tricks for Paige, Amanda, and Lindy. Jordan scored twice, and VA, Meg, Jessica, and Hana all added points. And, after a not fun start, KMac came up with six big saves to help control the defensive end of play.
It was a great, great night for the Mavericks. Come back out and see this team play on Monday, when they take on the Westside High School Varsity team... 5 pm at Caven field.
It was a great, great day for the Mavs as they pushed through the early Texas humidity and solidly defeated the feisty St. Agnes Tigers. After a quick start by St. Agnes, the Mavs turned on their speed and dominated play with steady stick skills, beautiful transition passing, and clear communication on defense. One favorite aspect of the game - eleven different Mavs had points in the game! Kendall led the way, with 4G, followed closely by Linday (2G, 1A), Ginny and Paige (1G, 2A each). Amanda, Jordan and VA each scored twice, and Jack had 1G and 1A. Also adding tallies were Audrey, Kelly, and Isabelle. Way to go Mavs! Come out tonight to cheer on the Mavs as they face the Lady Highlanders from the Woodlands.
In a great team effort, the Mavericks started the season off right by beating Lamar 16-4 on Caven Field! The Mavs controlled play from the first whistle and improved as the night went on - a terrific showing for this newly-formed team!
