On Thursday, the boys' and girls' tennis teams competed in the Lone Star Showdown Team Tennis Championship in Sugar Land. The tournament featured two brackets of singles, two of doubles, and one of mixed doubles, ensuring that all players played at least two matches.
Khaleel Abaroa claimed victory in the A singles bracket with an outstanding performance against high-level opponents. In the B singles bracket, Finn Brewer staged an impressive comeback in his opening match, rallying from a 2-5 deficit to win 8-6 in an eight-game pro set. He carried that momentum through the rest of the tournament, dominating his opponents to secure the title.
In the B doubles bracket, newcomers Ryan Vo and William Liang showcased their resilience, winning several close and exciting matches to take the championship.
On the girls’ side, Kayden Johnson maintained her trademark composure, using a mix of consistency and shot variety to outmaneuver her opponents and win the A singles bracket. Meanwhile, Isabel Jammar and Morgan Mennely proved unbeatable in the B doubles bracket, adding more crucial points to the team’s overall success. This was our first Lone Star Showdown title. St. John's will keep the cup for one year until the tournament takes place again next year. Congratulations MAVS!
