A Contrast to Last Week!

With beautiful blue skies and warm temps, the JV girls had a nice win over the team from Awty…a significant contrast to last week’s frigid temperature and loss against Memorial!
Lini had a convincing win over her strong Awty player at Line 1 Singles, 8-1. Her consistently strong second serve and wonderfully nasty short ball with backspin fooled her opponent time and again.

Dalia fought valiantly against a hard-hitting “backboard” player at Line 2 Singles. Her crosscourt shots moved her girl side to side well but the consistent return was too much and though many games went to deuce, Dalia wasn’t able to convert to a win. Once you are down, it’s difficult to get back, but Dalia takes instruction very well and wanted to practice what she learned. She played a non-counter second match against Awty’s top girl and the lead went back and forth finishing just short- 6-8. Great effort, Dalia. You are a winner!

Sophia and Eva teamed up at Line 1  Doubles. Sophia’s aggressive net game and Eva’s solid groundstrokes earned them a solidly aggressive win, 8-3.

Awty wanted to play two more singles matches so Lauren played their Line 3 girl in a great match with the lead changing several times. Lauren’s first serve was fierce and her forehand was formidable but too many balls landed in the net resulting in her opponent squeaking by…7-9. It was an exciting match!

Begoña’s match was equally exciting! Her solid groundstrokes kept her opponent on her toes for long rallies. When she found the open spaces in her opponent’s court, she moved in for the win, 9-7! Way to go, Begoña; way to go, Mavs!

Abi went home sick but still provided great snacks and beverages for the team. We appreciated them and our great fans!
